My Favorite Light House

This is my favorate Light House. It is located in Nova Scotis, Canada. The reason I remember it so well is because it has a working Post Office in it. It has a special cancelation stamp that it uses on all mail that gets mailed out from the Light House. The cancelation stamp has a picture of a Light House on it. (of cause)

7 Lucky Sunflowers

This is my newest water color picture called, "Seven Lucky Sunflowers". It is 21 7/8" X 27 3/4".

Another Van Gogh ?

This is a 12 1/8 x 16 1/8 inch Water Color of " Sunflowers".

For those of you who don't know who Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) was, he was a 19th Century Dutch artist. His most recognizable works are his 3 oil sunflower paintings. The first one was done in 1887 and was in titled " Two Cut Sunflowers". The second & Third were completed in 1888. One was called "Sunflowers in a vase" and the other was called "Twelve Sunflowers in a vase". But, what art history will remember him the most for, is that he was a man with mental problems who cut off right ear. His last oil painting in titled '' Wheat Field with Ravens" was done in 1890 just before he shot himself in the right side of the head. He died on July 29, 1890.

What does all this have to do with me? Well, I started out trying to paint sunflowers in Realism but it come out in more of an Impressionist style. My sunflowers look more like Vincent van Gogh "crazy" & "nutty" sunflowers; then the realistic ones I would have liked them to have been. Oh well, what can I say? It just came out that way.

Toy Blocks

I am in the process of learning perspective. Persperctive is the apparent diminishing of scale as the distance from the viewer increases. Each of the Toy Blocks and Yo-Yo has a vanishing point. A vanishing point is the point on the horizon line to which the receeding parallel lines diminish. In other words, it is the way artist get a 3 dimensional object to fit in a 2 dimensional space. I am planning on doing a whole series on Toys.

Old Sugar Mill

My Mother & I went on a cruise to the Caribbean Islands about 3 years ago. We toured 6 Islands. I don't remember what Island we were on but the tour van past by this over grown ruins of an old sugar mill. So, I took a picture of it and decided to paint it this year.

Egg in a Frame

When I was in 5 & 6 grade, all the girls in the class had Home Economics on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Half of the year was spend learning how to sew and the other half was spend learning to cook. The School Board gave the Home Economics teacher a very small budget to work with. So, she was very limited in what she could have us cook. One of the dishes we made was called Egg in a Frame.

Egg in a Frame is easy to make. You just take one slice of bread and make a hole in the center of it with a cup or glass. Then butter it on both sides and put it in a pan for 2 minutes. Then put a egg in it. When the egg starts to bubble, flip it over. Let it cook until the bread gets toasted. Take it out of the pan and enjoy it.

One of the things I like to do when I'm painting is to put a picture within a picture. If you look closely at the picture, you can see the egg in a frame, an Orange, and a cup of Coffee. Now, if you look at the cup of Coffee, you can see a second picture on the cup.
